- Wait 48 hours before washing your hair after you color. The hair needs time to settle.
- Shampoo with warm, not hot, water. Water that is too hot will cause the color to fade more quickly.
- Hair products designed for color-treated hair are best and will keep the color longer. FYI: Volume-building shampoos can cause the color to fade faster, as the volumizers open up the hair cuticle, which allows color to be washed out.
- Linger longer. Shampooing the hair less will pay off in color that is longer lasting and better conditioned. See if you can stretch it a day longer than you normally would.
- Keep the heat from styling appliances on a lower setting. The higher the setting, the more damaging it is to treated hair.
- Wearing a hat when out in the sun or a cap while swimming will keep the sun, surf, sand, and pool chemicals from affecting the color.
- Treat colored hair with tender loving care. Use the best products you can afford.
- A deep conditioning treatment on a regular basis will keep the hair looking and feeling great.
- Wait at least one month before attempting any other chemical processes, such as perming or straightening, as these products will change the color.
