One of the most important things to understand about confidence is that low self-confidence is not your fault. We are conditioned to believe that we need to be more, to do more and to measure ourselves up against other people in order to be worth something. The thing is, there are factors that can contribute to low self-confidence that you need to consider.
Whether you’re dealing with image issues because of glasses or an overbite, or you are dealing with career confidence issues, you need to start addressing the reasons you’re not feeling confident and neutralizing them. There is a lot that can affect your confidence and we’ve got five of those reasons below:
Genes.
Did you know sometimes, your confidence is determined by your genetics? What molds your self-confidence may be built into your brain from a young age. Some of our behavior can also stem from our temperaments, and if you’re hesitant or prefer to watch others, you might feel less confidence.
Life.
Were you bullied? Were you teased? Did you struggle with your siblings or in fitting in? A number of experiences can lead to you feeling very unsure of yourself and make you feel worthless. If you have had past trauma, issues with humiliation, your background – these can all affect your confidence. You deserve to feel better, so you need to try not let these things define you where possible.
Lack of information.
When you’re not confident about yourself, it can come down to a lack of knowledge. If there are things that you need to learn and you don’t know them yet, you should consider where you can stop aiming for perfectionism. You don’t need to be perfect to feel confident and valued in life. You just need to be okay with being you!
The wider world.
The world can give us a beating from time to time. The media, social media, the messages put out there in the beauty and fashion worlds – they all make us feel not good enough, and you should be feeling good enough to be just who you are. The world around you can make you question everything, from how you look to how you dress and you deserve to feel better than that. Everyone has doubts and bad days, and it’s much harder to get through those when the world tells you you’re not good enough.
Anxiety.
Are you struggling? Feeling anxious? It’s common for anxiety to affect your confidence. If you’ve been diagnosed with depression or anxiety, get yourself into therapy and speak to someone who can help. It’s a brave thing to do to address your confidence issues and work to overcome them. You should build your confidence and lessen your anxiety and you’ll feel great in the end.
Confidence takes time to build but it’s okay that you take your time if you are going to feel better for it. Don’t take your confidence for granted – it’s in there and you deserve it to be high!
