I think everybody has a hard time remembering to be active. Humans are not meant to sit at a desk for 8 hours a day. The majority of my friends have careers that center around sitting all day. Its not healthy. Humans are suffering with more diseases related to inactivity. The fitness industry has produced technology to remind people to workout everyday.
As a teacher, I generally was feeling run-down. Teaching takes a lot out of you. I would purposely take the elevator and use my “hard day” as an excuse to not take the stairs two flights up. I would buy myself fries in the cafeteria, because I needed to go back to grading as quickly as possible. I could come up with any number of excuses to be lazy. I’m sure some of my readers can think of your own excuses you use daily.
I bought a Garmin Vivofit (1, as the 2nd version did not come out yet) to encourage me to workout more. I started using the staircase, I found myself feeling less fatigued. I connected my Garmin Vivofit to my My Fitness Pal app to also track my food. When you become intentional about your health, you follow through with your health goals. After a day at work, I would accumulate at least 10,000 steps. I started doing Insanity by BeachBody and I would go to bed with at least 16,000 steps. I know the average office worker has less of an opportunity to walk around during the day, but it may encourage you to take more bathroom breaks, to use your lunch break to walk instead of scrolling through Facebook for 30 minutes.
Garmin has some achievements, which makes me feel like I have won something for being healthy. I would suggest anyone to get a Garmin Vivofit. They are affordable, they are seamless with anything you wear, and the really encourage you to move around. Please go to Garmin’s website to find out more about their products. They have a line of fitness products to fit your lifestyle and needs.
