Okay, so before I go any further, I’m just going to put it out there… I HATE cream eye shadow! I think it’s a pain in the ass, and a general waste of space in my already-packed makeup case!
No, no, don’t stop reading! I’ve found an exception! After realizing how much I loved the new formulation of Urban Decay’s Eye Shadow Primer (the oh-so-gorgeous Sin), I was actually a tiny bit excited to experiment with some cream shadows! And it was just in time, because UD sent me two gorgeous shades to play with: Asphalt and Midnight Rodeo (left and center in photo). And, while I won’t take back what I said about cream shadows, I WILL say that it totally doesn’t apply to UD’s line!
“Cream Shadow channels the sex appeal of the 70’s and the science of today! Whipped to perfection, each shimmering shade dries to a weightless layer of color that will not crease, fade, or hide in fine lines. Unlike most cream shadows, our gel-based formula features silicone technology, allowing time to blend, correct and smudge. Once dry, shadow is light and as flexible as your own skin.
The tube is travel-friendly and mess-free. Use the attached flocked applicator to shade the entire lid. Or, get artistic and squeeze Cream right from the tube: you can also apply Cream with your fingertips or your own brushes!”
I’m a huge fan of the smoky eye, and Asphalt totally lends itself to a great finished look. I love using it as a base, as it’s black/grey hue makes any shadow I layer over it really pop. And don’t worry, the gorgeous silver glitter won’t get lost… It just blends into whatever other products I’m using and adds a wash of sparkle that I love oh-so-much.
Midnight Rodeo has become a staple for days when I’m in a hurry. It’s hue is very complimentary to that of Sin, so all you need for a refreshed eye look in the morning is both tubes and a clean index finger! I either blend the two or use Sin all over the lid and then blend Midnight Rodeo into the crease, lower lid, or brow bone-it’s creamy formulation and easy-to-wear hue lends itself to wherever you need some extra oomph. Midnight Rodeo also features a peachy gold sparkle that will make sure your peepers reflect all those beautiful morning rays… And if you’re having a really low key day, just blend a little into the hollow indent where the corner of your eye meets the bridge of your nose for a super-quick pick-me-up!
Each tube is $17 and can be purchased online directly from Urban Decay. However, you can also find these lovelies at Sephora, and similar retailers. I think I might pick up the stunning blue Radium next!
