Stephanie Flor, Key Makeup Artist for Geren Lockhart’s fashion label, Geren Ford, at the 2009 New York fashion week show held at Milk Studios. Stephanie sat down to tell us how to re-create this stunning smokey eye look.
“When Geren Ford asked me to Key the direction of the Makeup for the second Season I was not blown away for the opportunity but by the inspiration behind the collection and the important connection to the makeup, hair and clothing!!! Models were lined up on a stage with the NYC Hudson river as their backdrop.” says Stephanie Flor.
“Makeup was very smoked out on the lid. We wanted to add depth and inner darkness to the flawless face. Using airbrush foundation we were able to achieve the most natural coat which gave us the freedom to focus on the eyes and create a seduction of blending the blacks. The lips were nude in color and the eyebrows were concealed with a lighter foundation using a brow brush. Cheeks were left natural with only contour as the separation on the cheeks.”
To create the look, the following products were used:
-
Skin Care: Thayers Alcohol-Free Rose Petal Witch Hazel Toner, Cetaphil Daily Facial Moisturizer, OCC Skin Primer
Foundation: OCC Skin Airbrush Foundation in Y1 and Y2
Concealer: Kryolan Dermacolor DC Camouflage Cream Palette
Blush: Tarte A Perfect Whirled – Natural Cheek Stain, a limited-edition cheek stain.
Eye Shadow: OCC Loose Colour Concentrates in Ironic and Iced
Eye Liner: Smashbox Jet Set Waterproof Eye Liner in Midnight Black (outer) and Urban Decay 24/7 Glide-On Eye Pencil in Zero (inner)
Brows: tarte the toolbox brow know-how eyebrow kit in Light, Medium and Dark
Mascara: CoverGirl LashBlast Mascara in “Black”
Lips: OCC Colour Lip Balm in Latte

Everyday Girl Tip on creating the runway look of Geren Ford Fall 2009
“This is definitely not a day look but if our looking to have a good time after hours, this look is the right key to getting you noticed. My tip for an everyday kind of girl is to not go over the crease of the eye, the higher you go on the crease the more the eye will push back. if you just want that sexy smokey eye just blend blend the darkest black up to the crease and then with a kohl liner like Urban Decay 24/7 Glide-On Eye Pencil in Zero, line your inner and upper rim from thin to thick on to the edge of the eye. And always mascara mascara mascara… try CoverGirl LashBlast Mascara in “Black”. It’s amazing. Also play around with color. A great way to add this effect without it being to black is by using a colorful shadow on the inner part of the eye. My favorite shadow to use are the Yaby Pearl Paints which are pigmented like not other in the market. By playing with color your able to always have a sexy flirty eye without being to mysterious.
