Jewelry. At it’s best, it makes an entire outfit flow. At it’s worst, it empties your bank account and then sits in your drawer. For everyday? It adds personality, flair, and a bit of fun. Anyone who’s known me for even a few weeks knows that I love earrings like Fox loves airing Reality TV. Seriously. I’ve paid for more holes to be punched in me than I can count. Currently I have an industrial and two rings in my cartilage, as well as three lobe piercings in each ear. While some might conclude that my pre-piercing motives had to do with rebellion, they’d be wrong (…mostly). I love to accessorize. Color, shimmer, sparkle… These are words that make my world go ’round! With that being said, I certainly have never experienced a no-budget trip into ANY jewelry store–even Claire’s. However, I still have boxes and boxes of earrings, rings, necklaces, bracelets, etc. How? I know where to shop! And now you, my lovely readers, will know where to go as well. Since I don’t want to inundate you with too much information at once, I’m going to break the jewelry posts into volumes! And this, darlings, is Volume I: Girl Props.
Beauty Magazines across the country have been casually dropping mentions of this jewelry jungle for months now. In fact, if you look carefully enough in the August issue of InStyle, you’ll see a mention! Plenty of others have as well, including: Okay, People, and Style-Even Time Out, NY! I, however, first discovered Girl Props in the harried streets of New York City. It was raining and I was exhausted, but when I saw the metal handrail covered in vivid boas and neon lights, all thoughts of my warm hotel room vanished. Treasure lay ahead; I knew it! And boy was I right…
What awaited me inside was any Fashionista’s dream… Row upon row, rack upon rack, of the most fantastic accessories-at prices I could afford! In multitude! Although I can’t remember what I bought on that trip (it was a few years ago), I certainly have never forgotten the name… Or the slogan: “We Never Say Cheap!”
Now, fortunately for anyone who doesn’t live in NYC (such as myself), Girl Props has a fantastic website. For a few dollars apiece you can pick up beautiful buttons, twinkling tiaras, pretty plastics, and so much more! My current favorites are pictures below.
The first ones remind me a lot of MAC’s Naughty Nauticals collection, which quickly stole my heart with it’s Port Red lipstick. The second are beautiful and classy, and the third just feel like fun for the summer! The best part? Not a single item is over $9.99.
