“A tree is planted for every Ecoist purchase, but the bottom line is that the alternately sleek and eye-popping designs can stand stylishly on their own, do-gooding aside.”
-Elle Magazine
E-Mag and I have been known to have our differences. Mostly, I feel like they taunt me with overpriced crap and then I have to use the pages of their magazine as tissues.
However, they totally nailed their review of Ecoist. I’ve been in love with the brand since I first discovered it! To the left is an example of why Elle and I have finally agreed on something-these bags are beautifully crafted, stylish, and (relatively) affordable. The “Confetti” tote pictured is on sale for $98, but Ecoist also features more affordable pieces.
In addition to handbags, Ecoist sells repurposed vinyl records (they’re now totally hip clocks), bike chains turned bottle openers, reusable shopping bags, and plastic wallets! Everything’s completely adorable, and made of materials you can feel good about purchasing. If you think about it, everybody wins.
From the Ecoist.com About Us section:
“Founded in 2004, Ecoist develops unique gifts and fashion accessories for the eco-minded individual.
Our objective is to merge design with social and environmental consciousness to provide stylish, functional, and durable products that people will love to own. All our products are made from recycled, organic, or earth-friendly materials, and are manufactured through our network of fair trade partnerships around the world.
We believe that style comes first. When designing our accessories, it is our basic assumption that no consumer will purchase our products because we are on the mission to save the Earth. Rather, people will buy what looks good on them, or what’s hot, or what celebrities are wearing. However, by promoting our brand, we hope to enhance the planet, elevate consumer consciousness, and transmit our values, not just our sense of style.”
